My name is Buckeye and this is my story. I am a dog that was taken to a dog shelter in Dayton, Ohio, March 1, 1997. A bearded man came to visit the kennels. I was happy to have a visitor. He stuck his hand up to my cage and I licked his hand. I liked the salty taste. It was love at first lick. Soon after that tender moment, I was taken to this man's house. I have lived there for eight years. When I arrived, I was sick and skinny.
Now I am healthy, but slightly overweight. I enjoy protecting my territory. If anyone steps into it, I alert the family. Usually they tell me to be quiet. They don't realize that I am helping them. My services are undervalued. I love it when humans drop food on the ground. I am right there to help them out. I certainly do miss my master. My grandparents adopted me three years ago. Life is good, but I love when I get to spend time with my master. No one beats her. She's the best!
