Goals

Goals... we all have them (well, most of us anyway). Mine tend to more amorphous than most, a feature that often frustrates my wife. She is all about concrete goals and self improvement. So, this blog entry should please her because I am laying out some of my goals for the rest of the year.

This is my second try at this entry - I lost it all the first time because my internet connection at the hotel in which I am staying reset like it does once a day. Frustrating to say the least.

1. Losing weight. I have been in the 190s for the last 10 years or so, despite the fact that my target weight is in the 170s. It is time to get back to where I belong. I need to lose 2 - 3 pounds a month to reach this by the end of the year. That is a reasonable goal at a reasonable pace.

2. Cardiovascular fitness. For the last several years, my run time for the mile and a half run has been in the 13:11 to 13:50 range. My goal is to get this number to 12:00 in time for my next fitness test at the end of October. This, combined with my weight loss should get me to scoring in the mid 80s on my fitness test, compared to 77 last month.

3. Stop biting my fingernails. I have done this as long as I can remember. It has proven very difficult to stop. I know I am capable of stopping, and I don't want to make excuses for it anymore. I don't want to do it anymore. I will stop.

4. Finish major identified projects on flees.net so I can start working on The Awesome Theory once again. Granted, there will always be things to do on flees.net, but it will be more tweaking once I get all of the big stuff done. The site has come a long way in the last year, but it still has a ways to go.

If I can manage to accomplish all of these things in a reasonable time frame, I may just be able to reward myself with a pinball machine, which I have wanted to own since I was quite young, providing it is financially feasible at the time. I know I can do this. I will do this. I will accomplish my goals!

    We went on a cruise!
The TLDR or "short, short version" about what we did

We did a 7 day Caribbean cruise with DJ's sister, Lori, her husband, James, and their kids, Oliver and Lucy. We flew from Newport News to Houston and sailed from Galveston. We had stops in Cozumel, Mexico; Grand Cayman Island; and

    Moving is hard work
We moved to our new house six days ago and man, that was some super hard work. I was more exhausted than I've been in quite some time. The only times I can remember it being worse was after our half marathons and after my Spartan Race. I tried to workout two days later and could barely do any of the moves. It was just silly.

The house is coming together nicely, though. It is older, but we like its quirks, and the backyard is simply amazing. This house will force us to be more social which I think is a good thing. We were very secluded in our last house. I worry a little about how much the utilities will cost, but I don't think it could possibly be that bad.

We should be here for at least 17 months, quite possibly longer, and we're going to enjoy it while it lasts!

    DJ's work Hawaii trip
DJ went on a work trip to Hawaii and got to do and see some cool stuff while he was there.
