    We will not give in!
For the past 3 weeks now Kelley has not been feeling herself a lot and it has impacted her exercise routine. She can't run any significant distance anymore and regularly feels rather unwell. We've been working the issue through the base medical system and we think we are close to the light at the end of the tunnel.

That, combined with the inability for either of us to lose weight, despite my significantly increased exercise workload, makes for some frustration. Further exacerbating the issue is my new job(s) - I am the new resource adviser and unit fitness program manager and it is making my days long and stressful. Despite all of this, we remain unbowed and look to the future and the bright things ahead... like football season! Go Blue!

    A time of change
I am starting to get settled into my new job and it has some pros and cons. Right now the scale is leaning on the negative side, but that could balance out once I am finished with my training and really know what I am doing. The change is going to keep on coming, though. We'll move into a new building in Sept/Oct, and then I will be promoted likely around 1 March 2014. Around that time I should find out if I am accepted to the Masters Degree program via the Air Force. now THAT will be a huge change if I am accepted. Fingers crossed!

    Awesome vacation over
We just got back from an awesome vacation - we flew into Dayton, stayed overnight, drove into Traverse City and stayed there for 5 days, then drove back down to Dayton for another night. It was an awesome vacation and I got to see some friends and family that I had not seen in quite some time. My dad had a BBQ on the 4th and tons of people showed up. Kelley's parents got to meet my parents for the first time and see some of the town I grew up in. Overall, it was really awesome!

    Whew, glad that is over!
And so a stressful time in my life has come to a close. Well, maybe not a close, but certainly a transition. I have been waiting since March to find out if I studied hard enough to make Master Sergeant (MSgt), the next rank for me in my military career. Today, I found out that I did indeed make it. I have been selected for what is most likely my last promotion. I hit 16 years in the military 3 months ago and I am probably going to retire at 20 years. Today was like a referendum on my military career and I passed. The next 4 years are going to be challenging, but I am up for it!

    Counting down
13 days until the AF releases the list of MSgt promotees. I am starting to get rather nervous and excited. I did clear one hurdle in my way recently - I passed my PT test in April, although I only got an 88.6 (9 seconds short of a 90). That means I have to start going to AF PT once a week now. However, since I am PT Leader now, I have to hold my own PT sessions once a week, so this basically changes nothing.

Promotion to MSgt is in the bag
I took my promotion test this week and I think I crushed it. My estimate is that I should make it by 18 points, which is a large margin. I believe I will find out on May 16th, and that will be one super happy day indeed if I do make it. It also would mean no more studying for military promotion tests, ever!

Meanwhile, I am preparing for my PT test on 18 April. Running is hard, and it has been too cold lately, but I ran today anyway despite the rain. Michigan plays in the NCAA tournament in an hour, so I am pretty pumped about that as well - Go Blue!

Kelley visits Ohio and is working like crazy
Kelley's work recently switched to new software and it has been a major headache, causing Kelley to work some very long hours. Hopefully this time of craziness for her is nearing its end. Regardless, she is about to take a 6 day vacation and go visit her parents in Ohio. I'll be staying here, minding the house and animals and continuing to study for my promotion test in less than 3 weeks. I am going to make it - I look forward to announcing it in May!

Football done, taxes done, now what?
Football season is over, so weekends are more free now, which is mostly a good thing. I finished our taxes this week and we are getting a decent chunk back - I bought some software and got Kelley an iPad 4 with the proceeds.

One piece of software I got was PDG Adviser, a promotion preparation program. I test for my next rank on 20 March and I am determined to make it this year. Finally, Michigan has its best basketball team in 20 years and I having a great item watching all their games!

    Bring it on, 2013!
So, another year is upon us (already!) and we aim to make it a great one! Kelley is pushing hard to learn Spanish, which will help her with her job and future employment. DJ is concerned with upgrading the house and the yard for the eventual moving out of this place. 2012 was fine, but 2013 is going to be great!

    Disney!
Despite not having kids, we took a 4 day Disney vacation during Thanksgiving week. We drove down and went to all 4 major parks from Mon-Thur. We had a great time and did a lot of cool stuff. I am currently working on a blog that will go into detail about all we did.

Besides that, Christmas is coming up and we are not doing anything besides enjoying some extra time off. It will be nice. 2013 is shaping up to be a busy year and we want to be ready to kill it!

    Keeping on keeping on
We seem to be hitting that lull where we have been here in Georgia a little over 3 years and we just want to know what is next. We are not really fitting in here or putting down roots. We're on our third church - the first two were not bad, but never really clicked. We've not found really good friends to hang out with consistently. The area is meh - the restaurants are meh. To sum up -- Meh!

    I get home tomorrow!
I've been really quiet on the social media front about where I have been the last three weeks. I guess the military has really ground the whole OPSEC (operations security) thing into my brain. I've been in the UK for the last three weeks and I finally get home tomorrow. I am super excited. 5 days after I get back we leave for Dayton and Virginia - should be a great time!

This week is a new start
We've struggled lately with working out and staying motivated, but this week is a new start. We ran 8+ miles on Saturday and had a great workout this morning, now we just need to keep up our momentum. It will be hard while I am away to England for 3 weeks here soon, but we can overcome any challenges set before us. We are going to kick some tail!

Every day can be a struggle
Sometimes exercising and losing weight is relatively easy. Other times it is very hard. Lately it has been a struggle for Kelley and me. We are training again for the AF Half Marathon in September, but Kelley is currently hampered with foot pain. Plus, we have been feeling like death in the mornings. That makes it hard to keep to our workout regimen. But we'll keep at it! The alternative is unacceptable!

    Not even close
I test for my next promotion back in February and I found out my results on May 17th. I thought that I would either make it or miss it by a close margin, and I was about 60/40 in thinking that I made it. Well, I didn't make it, and I wasn't even close. I missed it by 5 points last year, and by 27.5 points this year. I bombed the test worse than I've ever bombed a test before. I don't know why - I studied more this year than last. This will definitely increase my motivation to study even more next year, though. 3rd time is the charm, right?
